Our wedding

When

5th November 2022, 1:00PM - 2:00AM

Where

Cloughan Castle, Ballingarry, Loughrea, Co. Galway, Ireland

Dress code

Semi-formal / cocktail

If you're anything like us, you'll always find yourself having to look up what these terms actually mean, so basically, fairly standard wedding attire. We'd like people dress up but feel comfortable.

If you arrive in a tuxedo or a ball gown, you might feel a little over-dressed for the occasion, but a nice suit or dress is perfect.

Gifts

As many of you know, we've been together for a while now so we're all set for the  household items that would traditionally be given as wedding gifts.

If you'd like to give us a gift, what we'd most appreciate is a contribution to our honeymoon.

FAQ

If you have more questions, email brid@mattharvey.com

When should I arrive?
The wedding ceremony starts at 1:00pm and guests are welcome to arrive any time after midday. Please arrive before 12:45 so that we can get everyone seated. If you’re taking the bus we’ve arranged from the Lady Gregory hotel, please be at the hotel entrance before midday.

Should I eat beforehand?
Yes. You will be very well fed on the day, and there will be canapés after the ceremony, but dinner won’t be served until around 5pm so we’d advise that you have a decent breakfast.

What will there be to eat and drink?
We’re having a Prosecco and mulled wine reception with canapés after the ceremony, then a three-course sit-down meal around 4/5pm. There will be a free bar all night, and snacks later in the evening.

Is there a gift registry?
As many of you know, we've been together for a while now so we're all set for the  household items that would traditionally be given as wedding gifts. If you'd like to give us a gift, what we'd most appreciate is a contribution to our honeymoon.

How do we get from the ceremony to the reception?
Just grab a drink, have a chat and relax. It’s all in the same venue, so once you’re at Cloughan Castle, you’re where you need to be for the day.

What should I wear?
There’s a dress code section further up on this page that gives you more information, but please make sure you wear layers. It’ll be cold outside but should be nice and warm inside.

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?
All of the crucial parts of the day will take place indoors, but if the weather is great, you’ll be able to wander around the castle grounds and head up to the battlements on the roof.

Can we take photos?
After the ceremony, yes please! We have an official photographer for the ceremony, so while we’re getting married, please just relax and keep your phones away and on silent. After that, please capture anything you like, and we’d love to see all your photos so we’ll set up a drop box so everyone can share them after the wedding day.

Can we bring the kids / a plus one?
As much as we’d love to include everyone we know, due to the limited space of the venue, we are only able to accommodate guests who are mentioned on the invitation.

When does the day finish?
We intend to party well into the early hours, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to. There will be shuttle buses taking guests back to the Lady Gregory from midnight until 3am so after midnight, you can talk to the head bartender and he will make sure you get back on one of the buses. If you’re making your own way, then it’s entirely up to you.

Here are the rough timings for the day. These times are not set in stone, but should give you an idea of what to expect.

12:00 Bus pickup from Lady Gregory
1:00 Wedding ceremony begins
1:30 Drinks reception and photos
4:30 Dinner and speeches

There will be a live band in the evening playing music well into the night. There’s also a drawing room to retreat to for a more quiet chat when your dancing feet get tired.

Is there anything else I should know?
  • If you’re coming from outside Ireland, don’t forget your passport!
  • It’s November in Ireland so wrap up warm, but the castle is heated so wear layers.

Hotel recommendation

We recommend staying in the Lady Gregory hotel in Gort. If you are attending the wedding ceremony and staying at the Lady Gregory, you will be able to take advantage of the coach service we've arranged to get you to the venue and back. There are often good deals on booking.com, so we’d advise checking there first.

There are other options in Loughrea, such as the Loughrea Hotel & Spa, but anyone not staying at the Lady Gregory will need to make their own way to the venue and back on the day. If you need a taxi, please look into this well in advance because you’re unlikely to be able to book a taxi at short notice in rural Ireland.

Travel & transport

From Shannon Airport

There are plenty of car rental companies at Shannon Airport. It takes 45 minutes to get from Shannon to the venue or our recommended hotel, the Lady Gregory in Gort. Join the M18 North from Shannon and get off at Exit 16 for Gort/Loughrea.

From Dublin Airport

The venue is 2 hours from Dublin airport, again there are lots of car rental options. Follow the M50 out of Dublin Airport (there are tolls here), join the M4 and take the exit for the M6 to Galway. Exit at junction 15 for Ballinasloe and follow signs for Loughrea/Gort.
There is no train station at Shannon Airport or Dublin Airport. Gort does have a train station but it’s on the Limerick - Galway line, so we advise against travelling by train.
There are taxi ranks outside Shannon Airport terminal, but a taxi would be an expensive option, as the venue and our recommended hotel are about 45 minutes away.

If you’re planning on using a taxi to get to and from the venue from the hotel or nearby, we strongly recommend you book one well in advance. Taxis are not easy to come by in rural Ireland!

Some local taxi companies

Gort Taxis 00353 91630900
Portumna Taxis 00353 874131357
Ken Kabs, Loughrea 00353 870675050
There is a bus service every hour from Shannon Airport which stops in the market square in Gort, the nearest village. The bus stop in Gort is an easy 10 minute walk from the Lady Gregory hotel. At the airport, look for Service No. 51 to Galway. It leaves from just outside the departure terminal and takes 1 hour. See the bus timetable here, and please check well in advance, especially if your flight arrives particularly early or late in the day.

There are no direct buses from Dublin Airport. You would need to get a bus to Galway from Dublin Airport and change buses at Galway to take the No. 51 Service to Limerick which stops in Gort. This could be a viable option if you intend to spend a few days in Dublin and/or Galway before or after the wedding.
The closest airport is Shannon Airport (45mins). There are daily flights to Shannon Airport from Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham, and Manchester with Ryanair. There are also daily flights from London Heathrow to Shannon with Aer Lingus.

There are more regular flights into Dublin Airport (2hrs), however we are not aware of any direct public transport options from there to Gort or Loughrea so if you need to fly to Dublin, hiring a car is the best option.
